 Amanda Darrow, MS CCC-SLP

It is a pleasure to introduce our June Teletherapist spotlight, Amanda Darrow. Amanda has been with Unlimited Teletherapy for six years.

1. Tell me all about yourself.

I live in Arvada, Colorado. It’s a little bit West of Denver. I live here with my husband and my two children.  My daughter is four, and my son is three. We love making the most of the natural beauty of nature, and the recreational things to do here, like hiking. I went to grad school in Canyon at West Texas A&M, but we lived in Amarillo.

2. How long have you been with Unlimited Teletherapy?

This will be my 6th school year. I started covering for another SLP who was on maternity leave and then they decided to keep me around after that.

3. What is your favorite part about working at Unlimited Teletherapy? What do you enjoy most?

I really like the support we get from Danny, Nancy, and Keeley. Even though we are all teletherapists working far away from each other, we have great connections. They try to make sure we have the support we need and understand what we need being speech therapists themselves. I also like the flexibility of it being able to work from home. It works out great with kids and especially with their summer schedules.

4. How did you get started in the industry?

I started out getting my degree in elementary education and did that for seven years. I liked the idea of specializing a little bit more. I had students in my classroom that worked with a speech therapist. I started talking to her and asking questions about her job when she would come in and grab each student from my classroom when it was their turn for speech. I liked the idea and returned to school to get my speech degree.

5. What does a workday look like for you?

Most days of the week, I do have an e-helper on site. We get started around 8:30 am. My e-helper starts pulling students for me, which is usually pretty busy back-to-back with students. On a normal day, I have anywhere from 12-15 students. When I do not have an e-helper on site, I spend those days planning my lesson, documentation, billing, and preparing for evaluations. It is a good balance of time.

6. What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?

I don’t really have much time to watch tv, and when I do, the kids are always hogging it. When I do, I love watching Queer Eye on Netflix. I do like to read a lot as well. I am currently reading a book by Margarita Montimore called “Oona Out of Order“. Before that one, I read “Asleep from Day“. She writes the surreal, whimsical type of stories.

7. What’s one thing on your bucket list?

I am going skydiving in July with my sister. Someone may have to push me out, but it will be fun.

Amanda is one of many of our Teletherapists at Unlimited Teletherapy that is passionate, nurturing, and committed to supporting students to meet their individual goals. We are honored to have her on our team!
